Two chases, one fatal, on I-95 Friday night
Two high-speed chases in the same part of Interstate 95 in Harnett County Friday night left one man dead. The chases - one in the northbound lanes, the other headed south - were unrelated, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The first chase began when police tried to serve a warrant at a woman's home. Trooper said Macy Dial, 35, snuck away with her son in the car, but was eventually spotted on I-95 headed south. She was pulled over, but sped away as an officer approached her vehicle.
The chase reached speeds of up to 100 mph, according to the state Highway Patrol. Eventually, Dial found herself boxed in and surrendered.
Trooper said Dial was taken to the Harnett County detention center where she was going to be tested for drugs.
A second chase in the the northbound lanes began just after 7:30 p.m. when state troopers spotted a pair of motorcycles going more than 90 mph, Highway Patrol spokesman 1st Sgt. Jeff Gordon said.
As troopers began pursuit, one biker exited the highway but the other sped up, lost control, swerved into the median and hit a guardrail. The rider, 18-year-old Deion Montel Thompson, of Fayetteville, died.
Troopers later determined that the 2006 Yamaha motorcycle Thompson was riding had been stolen out of Fayetteville.
The northbound lanes were closed for about an hour while investigators and emergency personnel cleared the scene.
