ALBERTSON, N.C. — The deaths of 400 turkeys at a Duplin County farm in record heat this past weekend triggered a criminal investigation.

Duplin County sheriff's deputies said the turkeys died at Triple B Farm in Albertson, near the Duplin-Lenoir county line, late Friday or early Saturday.

The farmer told deputies that someone tripped the breakers to the fan and water system that keeps the birds cool. Deputies said they are investigating who tripped the breakers.
