HENDERSON, N.C. — A tractor-trailer wreck has blocked southbound Interstate 85 near the Vance-Granville county line since the early hours of Friday.

Ralph Williams, 60, of Autryville, lost control of his 18-wheeler in a construction zone at mile marker 209, between Henderson and Oxford, around 1 a.m., state troopers said. The tractor-trailer ran off the right side of the road, hit the end of a guardrail and came to a stop in woods along the highway.

Troopers said Williams was safely out of the tractor-trailer when they arrived, but he was limping. He was transported to Granville Medical Center.

Williams was cited for reckless driving.

Southbound vehicles were being diverted onto N.C. Highway 158 for about three miles.

Crews pulled the tractor-trailer out of the woods around 6:30 a.m. Troopers said they are concerned that some trees hit by the tractor-trailer could fall over.
