Truck crashes along I-40 in Hillsborough

The driver of a Duke Energy truck was injured Tuesday evening when a tire blew out on the truck, sending it off Interstate 40, down an embankment and into a tree, troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — A truck driver was injured Tuesday evening when a tire blew out on the truck, sending it off Interstate 40, down an embankment and into a tree, troopers said.

The driver was trapped in the cab of the truck, which is registered to Traffic Control Devices, for about 30 minutes before he was rescued. He was airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, but his condition was not released.

The crash happened near Exit 262 in Hillsborough.
