FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Troopers investigated a fatal wreck on Interstate 95 at mile marker 57 in Cumberland County Monday morning.

Investigators said five people in an SUV crashed in the southbound lanes.

As the passengers were getting out of the SUV, another driver didn't see them and hit a 16-year-old girl, Mattu Dandai, who died at a nearby hospital, troopers said.

No charges were filed against the driver who hit the teenager.

Thirty minutes later, another wreck happened in the same area in the northbound lanes. A tractor-trailer driven by Jose Gonzales, 59, of Florida, rear-ended a car and another tractor-trailer, troopers said.

The car's driver, Ivo Bejarano, 73, was taken to UNC Hospitals. His condition was unknown.

Gonzales suffered several broken bones and was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, authorities said.
