FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A tractor trailer ran off Interstate 95 in Fayetteville and crashed Monday, and officials believe the driver was suffering from a heart attack.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Exit 58 for Fayetteville State University. A trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol said the 18-wheeler ran off the right side of the highway, crashing into a wooded area. Part of the truck caught fire.

According to officials, the driver said he experienced numbness in his left hand before losing consciousness and crashing the truck.

Officials said the driver suffered only minor injuries and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. No other vehicles or people were damaged or injured in the accident.

The crash was the second involving fire, trees and a single tractor trailer on I-95 Monday. Around 3 a.m., another 18-wheeler crashed into trees near the Virginia line in Roanoke Rapids. A witness captured video of a massive fire that started as a result of the crash. The condition of that driver is unknown.
