As Cary Towne Center prepares for a big new indoor playground, another Triangle mall is working on a revamp of its play space.
Triangle Town Center in north Raleigh will shut its popular play area next to Sears down on Thursday. It should reopen on Aug. 16 with activities to celebrate a grand opening.

Jennifer Jones, the mall's marketing director, tells me that the play area's theme will be based on North Carolina's geography from the beaches to the mountains. A rendering shows everything from a beaver and dolphin to climb on to a pretend beach area and a pretend waterfall to a car and boat.

Everything will be new from the carpet to the equipment, she said. The location will be the same with a slightly smaller footprint.

Triangle Town Center off Capital Boulevard is a joint venture of The Richard E. Jacobs Group LLC and CBL & Associates Properties, which also owns Cary Towne Center.
