Train strikes, kills man in Cary

Cary police said that an Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a man along tracks near East Chatham Street and Trinity Road around 7 a.m. Saturday.

CARY, N.C. — Cary police said that an Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a man along railroad tracks near East Chatham Street and Trinity Road around 7 a.m. Saturday.

Sgt. A. Gazaway said a Wake County man in his late 30s died at the scene. Police were contacting his family.

Gazaway said the train's engineer told police that he saw the man walking along the tracks before the accident.

Police said they believe this may have been a suicide.

The Amtrak train, which was headed from Raleigh to Cary, was halted at the scene.
