Burlington, N.C. — An Amtrak train en route to Raleigh hit and killed a man Friday evening near Burlington, delaying the train by more than two hours.
Investigators said Glenn Edger Plester, 50, was sitting on the tracks near an overpass when he was hit.
An Amtrak spokesman said there was no damage to the train, and no one on board was injured. Train 76, which was scheduled to leave Charlotte at 5:15 p.m. and arrive in Raleigh at 8:26 p.m., made it to the capital city about 10:30 p.m.
The impact happened at around 7 p.m. near the intersection of West Webb Avenue near Fisher Street.
