MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Two people from Southern Pines were killed Friday night when a freight train collided with a vehicle in Morrisville, according to police.

Investigators said the crash happened at about 10 p.m. at the railroad crossing at Morrisville Carpenter Road and Chapel Hill Road.

According to an initial investigation, Fiona Frances Hudson, 55, and John Burl Hudson, 57 were killed while trying to make a right hand turn onto Morrisville Carpenter Road as the railroad crossing arms activated. The train slammed into the car, dragging it more than a half-mile down the tracks.
