Tractor-trailer carrying watermelons overturns on I-95 near Selma

Posted July 2, 2013

— A tractor-trailer carrying watermelons overturned Tuesday morning while traveling northbound on Interstate 95 near Selma.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which happened about 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 99, state Highway Patrol trooper said.

The truck was exiting a rest area when it tried to stop along the side of the highway. Before coming to a stop, it slid down a ditch and overturned. The driver, Jamie Fisher, of New Jersey, was charged with a log book violation, Highway Patrol officials said.

The highway wasn't closed due to the wreck, and officials did not report any serious delays.

The shoulders are probably quite susceptible to collapsing under the weight of a heavy truck with all this rain.

I hope they're able to salvage most of those melons. I'd still buy one. They go in my daily smoothie...seeds and all! :-)
