Toy gun prompts lockdown at Durham elementary school

Durham, N.C. — Merrick Moore Elementary School in Durham was briefly locked down Friday morning after a student brought a toy weapon to class, officials said.
“Law enforcement was immediately notified and responded quickly,” Durham Public Schools officials said in a statement.
Normal activity resumed, and there was no need for parents to pick up children, officials said.
