Tir na Nog reopening at new location in downtown Raleigh

Nearly a year after closing its doors, Tir na Nog has new life and a new home.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nearly a year after closing its doors, Tir na Nog has new life and a new home.

Former manager and unarguably the heart of Tir na Nog and the city's Irish community, Annie Britton-Nice, announced via Facebook early Wednesday that the pub will be opening at 108 Hargett St., just around the corner from its previous home on South Blount Street. It will be located in the newly acquired extension to London Bridge Pub.

Since the pub's closing, Britton-Nice had been organizing a series of Tir na Nog pop-up events at various restaurants and bars in the area.

"All along, I never gave up the dream of another Tir na nOg. I had been looking and looking, and a chance meeting with an old friend Darren Bridges, one of the partners at London Bridge Pub on Hargett Street, started a conversation that lead us quite easily down the path to talk about the new extension they had just taken on," Britton-Nice wrote.

After three meetings, Britton-Nice was getting the Tir na Nog sign out of storage.

The new location will have some familiar elements. The original Tir na Nog painter has been brought in to make sure the colors are true to the original location.

Tir na Nog will also continue its history of hosting live music, including Irish bands, dancers, local bluegrass, rock and DJs.

The new kitchen won't be operating until late December, so Tir na Nog will be inviting food trucks to all public events. The venue will still be able to cater private events on site.

The first event at the new Tir na Nog is Friday. There will be live music from Wake and District Pipe and Drums and Nine Times Around. Food truck Oak City Fish and Chips will be parked outside, and a hot dog stand will be set up in the back at the Pub Garden. Inside, enjoy a full bar.

The fun continues Saturday with live music starting at 6:30 p.m. from Wake and District Pipe and Drums, Born Again Heathens and The Tan and Sober Gentlemen. A food truck will be parked out front and a hot dog stand will be in the back at the Pub Garden. Saturday's event also coincides with London Bridge Pub's five year anniversary and Guy Fawkes night party.

Tir na Nog was open for 18 years at its previous location at 218 S. Blount St. Last November, Pete Pagano announced that the pub would be closing.

Bida Manda owners Vansana and Vanvisa Nolintha and friend Patrick Woodson will be converting the old Tir na Nog space into Bhavana, a brewery, taproom, dim sum restaurant and flower shop and plans to open it by the end of the year.
