GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro officials discovered a meth lab at Serena Inn on Corporate Drive Wednesday night after receiving a complaint of strong chemical odor coming from a guest room.

Authorities said the room’s occupants – Melissa Ann Bell, 30, Joseph Russell Carter, Jr., 40, and Daniel Victor Pellew, 43 – were in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine when officers seized the room.

Officials said Bell was charged with methamphetamine offenses and probation violations; Carter, Jr. was charged with methamphetamine charges and is being held under a $600,000 bond; Pellew garnered charges of methamphetamine charges and was being held under a $10,000 bond.

Sections of the hotel were evacuated due to the risks associated with the methamphetamine “cooking” process, officials said.

The Goldsboro Wayne County Drug Squad and the State Bureau of Investigation later responded to dismantle components of the meth lab. Officials said the Goldsboro Fire Department also assisted.
