Three injured when car hits box truck on US 1 in Apex

Authorities briefly closed southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 in Apex Friday night after a car ran into the back of a box truck near New Hill Holleman Road, state Highway Patrol officials said.

APEX, N.C. — Authorities briefly closed southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 in Apex Friday night after a car ran into the back of a box truck near New Hill Holleman Road, state Highway Patrol officials said. 

According to investigators, a Nissan Altima ran into the back of the truck at about 9:30 p.m. Following the collision, the box truck dragged the Altima for about a half mile along U.S. 1. 

The driver of the car was taken UNC Hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the box truck and one passenger were taken to WakeMed with minor injuries.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved, but troopers said the driver of the box truck was charged with driving with a suspended license.
