HOPE MILLS, N.C. — One man is charged with attempted murder and two others have been charged as accessories in a Monday night shooting, police said Wednesday.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, was shot in the head with an AK-47-style assault rifle on Shady Lane Drive, police said. He was being treated at UNC Hospitals, in Chapel Hill, and Police Chief John Hodges described his condition as “improving.”

Jason Antoine Miles, 18, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. His brother, Anthony Wayne Carson, 20, and Shakera Deloris Baxter, 17, were charged as accessories after the fact of attempted first-degree murder.

Hodges said the victim had an argument with Miles that led to the shooting. He said he didn’t know what the argument was about.
