WILSON, N.C. — A Texas murder suspect on the run for 19 years was captured in Wilson on Thursday, the United States Marshals Service said.

Esteban Moreno Berlanga, 48, of Wilson, was arrested at 915 S. Pender St. around 11:30 a.m., marshals said.

Berlanga also went by the name Juan Raya Landis.

Berlanga was wanted in connection with the 1989 shooting of a man in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Texas officials allege Berlanga snuck into his girlfriend’s house and found her with another man. Police said Berlanga became enraged, shooting and killing the man.

Authorities arrested Berlanga soon after, but was released on bond. The Texas courts issued an arrest warrant on Feb. 16, 1989, after Berlanga failed to appear on charges of murder and conspiracy to possess marijuana.
