I was there right after this happened. It was the intersection on 15-501 going towards Chapel Hill. Near the McDonalds where Old South Square used to be.

Tower Blvd dead-ends into Pickett Road so there could not be an accident between the two roads. The accident occurred at the intersection of Chapel Hill Blvd and Tower Blvd. The cars were ALL on Chapel Hill Blvd. Pickett road is two blocks from the accident site.

That intersection is a disaster. Traffic trying to get to Target, onto 15-501 on the crazy on ramp around McDonalds, the service roads for the Nissan dealership and restaurants. HORRIBLE design

I'm with you nogade.....probably was someone on their cell phone (texting no doubt). Cell phones do take your attention away, even if it's only for a few seconds; and that's all that it takes. To hit someone, or something and cause a wreck.

I know, been there, done that. Not no more though. It's dangerous. That's why the police ask people not to talk or text on their cells while they are driving. But do we listen?....
Then you have these kind of things happening...like a 10 car pile up. Duh!!

I am not sure why they are saying NEAR Durham. The accident happened in front of the Target that is located in the old South Square Mall IN Durham. The accident was at the traffic light controlling Chapel Hill Blvd and Tower Blvd. One car was on it side a number were facing the wrong direction. There were cars parked everywhere. Three fire vehicles, at least one EMT vehicle and more police than you can imagine. Helicopters circled the area for over an hour. I live about two blocks from where the accident took place. I drove right by it when I exited the parking lot, crossed Chapel Hill Blvd and drove north on Tower.

I saw this accident and it was in the city limits of Durham. How can it be "near" Durham? What does that mean??

Hmm, a ten car wreck. Weather conditions obviously weren't a factor. Hmm what else could have caused this? I'd be willing to take a guess or two, probably someone on a cell phone NOT paying attention caused this havoc, or someone driving far BELOW the posted speed limit (that does not have insurance and more than likely no drivers license) causing backups and road rage. Can't wait to hear the rest of this story!
