North Carolina State Fair
Taste Test: Twinx
We check out the new State Fair snack - a Twix bar stuffed in a Twinkie, wrapped in bacon and deep fried.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Bacon. Love it.
Twinkies and Twix? They’re among my sweet favorites.
Chocolate? You can never go wrong with it.
But all of the above, joined in deep-fried matrimony with powdered sugar on top? Only at the N.C. State Fair.
I’ll admit that I haven’t caught on to the deep fried craze. I’m working to reduce my waist line and deep fried sweets aren’t the way to do it.
But after biting into a Twinx (a Twix bar stuffed in a Twinkie, wrapped in bacon, deep fried and topped with powdered sugar) during the state fair media preview day, it took me to a place where diets are laid to pasture and taste buds are wrapped in calorie-induced goodness.
This is not a snack for someone who is not into sweets, or defines what they eat by nutritional value.
Instead, it’s a once a year snack for a once a year event. And it’s the first time it’ll be served at the N.C. State Fair.
In a land of deep fried everything, the Twinx does it for me.
You can find them at Murphy House, located in front of the Sam Rand Grandstand.
