BETHEL, N.C. — Quontellas Norwood, a senior, who plays both offense and defense for the SouthWest Edgecombe High School football team, was back on the field Friday night after he was hit multiple times in a drive-by shooting in August.

According to police, Norwood, 17, was driving in the 1300 block of Leggett Road at about 1:45 a.m on Aug. 31 when someone in a passing car fired shots into his vehicle.

Norwood crashed, got out and went to a nearby house for help. He told the homeowner there that he had just dropped a friend off at a home nearby when the shots rang out.

Norwood was treated and released from Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

On Friday, the Cougars defeated North Pitt High School in Bethel 42-0.
