Posted July 3, 2008

— Rocky Mount police have identified a suspect in the death of a woman found dead last month behind a local church.

Darnell Lynch, 41, of 616-H Keen St. in Rocky Mount, is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the June 26 death of Benita Rashawn Knight, 24, who was found dead behind The Guiding Light Church, at 204 Ivy St.

Authorities have not released her cause of death and have not disclosed a motive. They said they do not think the crime was random.

Anyone with information about the case or Lynch's whereabouts, or anyone in the Ivy Street area between noon and 6:30 p.m. on June 26 is asked to contact the Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1485 or Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.

Rocky Mount is getting worse and worse. The police dept. is turning away applicants who should be hired.

Rocky Mount...just a lovely place. That's why I drive the extra 15 minutes to do my shopping in Greenville rather than go to that armpit. Makes Roanoke Rapids look like paradise by comparison.
