Suspect sought in Chapel Hill vehicle break-in

Chapel Hill police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect wanted in a recent vehicle break-in.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect wanted in a recent vehicle break-in.

Investigators said the suspect broke into a car in the early-morning hours of June 6, stole the owner's credit cards, then used them to withdraw money at Mechanic and Farmers Bank on Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham.

The transactions occurred between 5:53 a.m. and 6 a.m., police said.

Police believe the suspect was driving a burgundy Ford Explorer, but they did not release any further information about the suspect or the crime.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.

Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential, and callers could be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
