RALEIGH, N.C. — A man wanted in a fatal 2016 home invasion in Greene County has been arrested in Raleigh.

U.S. marshals arrested Steven Jaquan Thigpen Monday at a north Raleigh home off Six Forks Road.

Thigpen, 34, of Hookerton, is charged with first-degree murder and three counts each of first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith said Eliza McCotter was shot and killed on April 30, 2016, at her home on N.C. Highway 123, north of Hookerton. McCotter's husband was first held at gunpoint and robbed, and then Thigpen and his co-defendants went to another room, where they found her, the sheriff told NBC affiliate WITN.

Ernest Roach of Greenville, Elsworth Massey of Kinston and Tyrone Council of Snow Hill have already been arrested in the case.

Investigators have determined McCotter's death and a nearby home invasion the same night were connected, Smith said.
