Survey: RDU second in N.C. for on-time flights

Raleigh-Durham International Airport has the second-best on-time performance among North Carolina's eight airports, according to a survey of airline passengers released Monday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh-Durham International Airport has the second-best on-time performance among North Carolina's eight airports, according to a survey of airline passengers released Monday.

RDU's flights were on time 78 percent of the time during the first three months of this year, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics. That ranked behind Craven Regional Airport in New Bern, which posted an on-time rate of 81 percent.

Fayetteville Municipal Airport ranked seventh, also with 76 percent of flights on time. Statewide, the eight airports posted an average on-time rate of 77 percent.

Delta Airlines posted the best on-time performance at RDU, Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Piedmont Triad International Airport, in Greensboro. Regional carriers like Mesa Airlines, Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines posted the worst on-time rates at the state's three busiest airports, according to DOT statistics.
