PITTSBORO, N.C. — After a one-day suspension for failing to pay an administrative fine, Chatham County's attorney was reinstated Tuesday by the North Carolina State Bar.

County Manager Charlie Horne said Kevin Whitehart demonstrated he didn't receive the proper notification of the fine, so his suspension was lifted.

The suspension came after Whitehart failed to pay a fine levied by the Bar because he had missed a deadline to file proof that he had completed his required continuing legal education courses for the year, officials said.

Whitehart became Chatham County's attorney in May. He previously was Lumberton's city attorney for three years.
