Standoff between Raleigh man, police ends peacefully

Raleigh police officers went to a home at 713 Friar Tuck Road just before 7:30 a.m. to serve Laquan McCoy Cannady, 23, with arrest warrants for two counts of failure to appear in court and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Authorities said Cannady declined to exit his home additional officers responded to the residence while several nearby homes were voluntarily evacuated as a precaution.

Cannady surrendered without incident at about noon and was charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing officers and child abuse.

The abuse charge stems from the fact that children were inside the home during the standoff, police said.

Cannady was being held at the Wake County Detention Center.
