SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A 26-year-old Spring Lake man wanted in connection with the shooting of an acquaintance earlier this month surrendered to authorities Monday, police said.

Marrvette King, of 100 Rose St., Apt 4, was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was being held at the Cumberland County jail under a $750,000 bond.

Officers traced a 911 call placed by the victim, Efrem Cordez Lawrence, to a field near Parker Street on Nov. 20. There they found Lawrence with gunshot wounds to the lower extremities.

Lawrence was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he named King as the shooter in interviews with detectives. It wasn't clear how the two men knew each other or what prompted the shooting.

King turned himself in at the Fayetteville police department around 10:30 a.m. and Spring Lake police were immediately notified that he was in custody, authorities said.
