RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Mike Easley on Thursday called legislators into a special session to consider an override of his recent veto of a bill that would have provided state grants to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.

Easley vetoed House Bill 1761 last week, saying it would set a bad precedent for economic development incentives in North Carolina.

State lawmakers approved the bill in July, providing up to $40 million in state grants to Goodyear over the next decade if the company invested $200 million to upgrade its Fayetteville tire plant.

The special session is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday.
