Southern Nash High pays $30K to settle student's throat-slashing suit
In March 2012, 15-year-old Jasmine Hicks attacked 16-year-old Jasmine Barnes with a scalpel.

BAILEY, N.C. — Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools has settled a lawsuit over a 2012 throat slashing at Southern Nash High.
Barnes needed emergency surgery and therapy. She filed a civil suit in 2015, claiming school administrators should have seen Hicks as a danger because of her disciplinary record. The principal, Connie Bobbitt, said the two girls had a previous run-in.
Her family settled the lawsuit for $30,000.
Hicks pleaded guilty to attempted murder and served three years in prison. She was released on parole in September.
