CARTHAGE, N.C. — Customers in a few Moore County communities have been ordered to reduce water usage by 30 percent because of a lack of rainfall.

The communities include Seven Lakes, Love Grove, McLendon Hills and West End. Utility officials said they've been unable to fill elevated water tanks that serve those communities for the past three days.

Voluntary conservation efforts weren't successful at reaching a goal of a 20 percent reduction in water use, according to utility officials, so mandatory limits are now in place.

Residents won't be allowed to water their lawns during daylight hours, and nighttime watering will be permitted only twice a week.

Also, residents can't use water to wash down driveways, patios or sidewalks.
