FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An active-duty soldier shot and killed a Fayetteville man late Tuesday as the man was trying to rob the soldier's wife, police said.

Rebekah Quema, 45, was outside her home in the 7500 block of Netherland Drive shortly before 10 p.m. when a man walked up to her and engaged her in a brief conversation before pulling out a gun, police said. The man threatened to shoot her if she didn't give him money, police said.

Quema's husband, 36-year-old Dario Miranda, heard the commotion outside and saw a man holding a gun to his wife as he tried to force her into the home, police said. Miranda grabbed his own gun and confronted the robber, shooting him when the man pointed his gun at Miranda, police said.

The robber was identified as Jerome Allen, 51, of Tin Lizza Drive. Investigators said the suspect brandished a pellet gun that looked like a handgun.

No charges have been filed in the case.
