FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A soldier stationed in California has been named as a suspect in the shooting death of a teen on Morganton Road, police said Wednesday.

Jourdhan Phillips, 18, was shot when a vehicle pulled alongside the car in which he was riding near the intersection of Morganton Road and Hearthstone Drive on May 6, police said. A gunman shot across the driver of the car Phillips was in, killing Phillips in the passenger seat, police said.

Investigators said they believe the car Phillips was in was targeted by the gunman.

Warrants have been issued charging Terrance McLaughlin, 20, of 626 Alex Baker Road in Raeford, as an accessory after the fact of murder, police said.

McLaughlin is a soldier stationed at Fort Erwin in California, and he will be extradited to North Carolina in the coming weeks, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
