SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Pinecrest High School Principal Bob Christina said Wednesday that the school will add a tent at the Fair Barn in Pinehurst so that more than 100 additional students can attend Saturday's prom.

On Tuesday, students expressed concern after the junior-senior prom had reportedly been sold out. In total, about 40 juniors and seniors had been turned away.

The high school has more than 1,000 junior and senior students, but the prom is being held at the Fair Barn, a venue that can accommodate only about 600 people with tables and chairs. The tent will add an additional 1,500 square feet of space.

This was the second time in the last three years there was an issue involving the Pinecrest High School prom. Two years ago, students were turned away due to a strict dress code policy.
