Snow Day @NCCapitol: House postpones activity until later this week

Senate leaders on Monday were holding out hope of getting some work done Tuesday afternoon. House Speaker Tim Moore has told his members not to come in on Tuesday.

THE HOUSE: Speaker Tim Moore announced Monday that state House staff and members should stay home on Tuesday.

"Everything we've seen so far indicates the weather is a little bit dicey," Moore, R-Cleveland, said on the floor Monday.

The next House floor session is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, he said, although no votes are expected. Some committees may meet on Wednesday at their chairmen's discretion, he said.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: As for the House economic development bill that was slated to be rolled out Tuesday, Moore said leaders would take time given to them by the inclement weather to make some final tweaks.

"I think we're just going to wait to file it on Wednesday," he said.

It's still unclear how it will address concerns about the failure of JDIG projects and distribution of the grant funds.

THE SENATE: Senate leaders were still holding out hope on Monday afternoon of getting some work done on Tuesday. Senate Rules Committee Chairman Tom Apodaca said he still expected to hold session at 2 p.m. Tuesday, and it was possible some committees could meet in the afternoon. Senate staff were told to expect to make the trudge into work by noon Tuesday.

UPDATED: Senate leadership announced Tuesday morning they would hold a skeleton session and no work would be done today.
