— A small plane made an emergency landing Monday at Raleigh-Durham International Airport when its nose gear collapsed after the plane touched down.

The plane landed on the smaller runway at RDU around 10:15 a.m. The pilot was the only person on board and was not hurt, RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said.

No further details were immediately available.

The incident comes a day after a Northwest Airlines plane made an emergency landing shortly after take-off. No one aboard the flight was injured.

Northwest officials said they believe a bird strike might have caused the plane's engine to malfunction. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

How can it be an emergency landing if the plane was already on the ground?

It became an emergency when the nose gear collapsed upon landing.

Sometimes hard luck can be like grapes on a vine...they come in bunches. Two emergency landings in two days. When was the last emergency landing RDU had before these two? Then there's the crash upstate last week.
