— The N.C. State University dance team is scrambling to find a way to this week's National Dance Alliance/National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship.

The team bought discounted tickets through Skybus Airlines. Skybus shut down operation Saturday after filing for bankruptcy.

During Sunday's dress rehearsal, the team gave away posters and T-shirts to people who made donations.

The team hopes to raise enough money to travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the competition.

Go Green - don't go to the competition.

Agree with squirreling dervish. My daughter & husband are in CT for a college visit and were supposed to return on Skybus tomorrow. I feel more sorry for the employees. Even employees were not given notice and were stranded after flying 'outbound' Friday night. US Airways and Southwest are honoring Skybus tickets on a 'standby' basis ($50 per segment on US Airways; Free on Southwest) but it is VERY limited availability. While it's an inconvenience to get my husband & daughter back from CT at least he still has a job!

Hundreds of people are out of jobs at Skybus. I am sure they did not take the decision lightly. I am sure they ran as long as they could. Get a van from NCSU and drive to Daytona if you can't afford airfare. Charge each cheerleader $75 for gasoline. It's not but an 7 hour drive down.

Seems to me, if I knew my company was in such dire financial straits, that I wouldn't have expanded by opening a second hub in Greensboro. It hasn't been that long ago that they opened it.

My wife and kids have been in Pleasant Valley N.Y. for spring break. The 3 of them are there on round trip tickets on Skybus. They got there just fine last Tuesday. They are scheduled on a Skybus return flight from Stewart field to Greensboro this morning. They are currently in a Hertz rental car headed this way - 600+ miles. I told her to stay overnight somewhere if she gets tired of driving. Rental car - $85/day. Hotel room - $60. Gas for 700 mile trip (Greensboro too) - $120. Putting your faith in airlines and having the carpet pulled from under your feet - priceless.

A more graceful way to go out of business is to stop making new commitments but honor the ones already made.

Despite the way the byline reads, I am sure Skybus did not do this intentionally. Company went backrupt. The people who WORKED for Skybus are probably suffering more than the cheerleaders are...
