Six-vehicle wreck injures three on I-540

Posted August 8, 2008

— A six-vehicle wreck caused a slow ride on Interstate 540 West for the Friday afternoon commute.

The wreck occurred at mile marker 21, near Old Milburnie Road, shortly after 3 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

Two cars, an Utz food-delivery truck and a pickup truck carrying furniture were involved in the initial wreck, officials said. A van and a Ryder truck got tangled up in the collision while trying to avoid the mess.

Officials said that at least three people were transported to a local hospital.

I-540 West was completely shut down for a while, but all lanes were reopened by 5:30 p.m.

    Yokel is appropriate.

Do you expect to have a cop following every vehicle around all day? Let me guess, your one of the first whiners on here complaining about taxes...

Driver's license optional, untrained drivers abound.

why cant we get traffic law enforcement to help prevent this? Give people tickets for bad driving and you can change their behavior. Instead we get this: http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/3347961/

People need to slow down out there; I avoid 540 most of the time, because too many people think they are driving for Nascar. Glad to see no one was killed in this one.

Too bad there wasn't a truck carrying a load of dip or salsa. You could stop and have a snack.

    I just went through there
they were turning people who were going west bound, around, to head back east, and then having them merge into the east bound lanes through an opening in the median.

I want to take this road in a few minutes, but none of the other traffic cameras are working! I need to know what it looks like.... ugh.
