Six indicted in Robeson dog-fighting operation
A federal grand jury has indicted six men in a dog-fighting operation in Robeson County, authorities said Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedJames Matthew Blackman, 43, Ricky Dial, 55, and Jimmy Jacobs, 40, all of Maxton, Frank Jacobs, 69, of Laurinburg, and Tony Harris, 35 and Ozell McLain, 59, both of South Carolina, were indicted on conspiracy and four other charges related to the operation.
According to the indictment, the men trained and bred pit bulls for fighting, hosted and participated in dog fights in secluded locations in various states, placed and accepted bets on fights, collected entrance fees for fights and offered prize money for winning animals.
“Word must go out – dog fighting, a particularly cruel crime, will not be tolerated," U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker said in a statement.
