Single-vehicle Raleigh wreck causes power outage near Enloe High School

More than 1,000 Duke Energy customers lost power at the peak of an outage caused by a car crash in Raleigh.

RALEIGH, N.C. — More than 1,000 Duke Energy customers lost power early Wednesday morning at the peak of an outage caused by a car crash in Raleigh.

Raleigh police said a single vehicle crashed into a power pole around 3 a.m. at the intersection of N. King Charles and Surrey roads near Enloe High School.

By 5 a.m., the number of customers affected was cut down to less than 500, according to the Duke Energy website.

Police said there was one person in the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Christopher Cordero Estes, who was charged with driving while impaired.
