DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Sunday night for a Durham woman.

Peggy Conway Riley, 78, was last seen on Mount Herman Church Road in Durham. Riley is 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 154 pounds. She is white, with short gray hair and blue eyes. She wears glasses and carries a black bag.

Riley is believed to be traveling east, possibly to 2708 Cookberry Road in Durham. Riley drives a tan 1987 Pontiac Bonneville with tags XVM-6377.

Anyone with information to Riley's whereabouts is asked to call Deputy Davis at the Orange County Sheriffs Department at 919-644-3050.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
