Silver Alert issued for Durham man

A Silver Alert was issued early Saturday afternoon for a 40-year-old Durham man who was last seen in Burlington.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Silver Alert was issued early Saturday afternoon for a 40-year-old Durham man who was last seen in Burlington.

Police said that William Carl Whitley Jr. was reported missing from 5214 Penrith Drive, Apartment C in Durham. He was last seen at Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One in Burlington.

He was driving a black 2008 Dodge Caliber, with North Carolina license plate YPA7807.

Whitely is described as a white man, weighting 175 pounds. He has hazel eyes and short, brown hair.

Anyone with information about Whitley's whereabouts should call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4427.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
