Shots fired outside Northgate Mall in Durham; three arrested

No one was hurt when shots were fired in the parking lot of Northgate Mall late Thursday afternoon.

DURHAM, N.C. — No one was hurt when shots were fired in the parking lot of Northgate Mall late Thursday afternoon.

Durham police said an off-duty sheriff’s deputy was responding to a disturbance in the parking lot just before 4 p.m. Shots were fired, and the deputy chased a man believed to be involved.

Devonte Keith, 20, of Glenbrook Drive, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, discharging a firearm within the city limits, carrying a concealed weapon, going armed to the terror of the public and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer. 

Two other men, 19-year-old Alvis Gentry and 27-year-old Gerald Melvin – were arrested following the incident on outstanding warrants.

One vehicle was damaged.
