MORRISVILLE, N.C. — An "officer down" call was reported at N.C. Highway 540 and N.C. Highway 54 Monday night in the same area where authorities were chasing a vehicle wanted in an earlier shooting in Morrisville.

The call was related to a Morrisville police officer who suffered a medical episode during the pursuit and damaged his cruiser's front passenger tire after hitting a curb, sources said.

The officer was talking when he was transported to Duke University Hospital, sources said. He was stabilized and stayed at the hospital overnight for observation, town officials said.

Westbound lanes of N.C. 540 were briefly closed during the investigation.

The suspect vehicle was wanted in a shooting at 3000 Bristol Creek Drive.

The shooting was reported at about 9:15 p.m. after four people approached an apartment, then got into an argument with two occupants, officials said.

One person was shot in the leg while the other was assaulted, officials said. Both were taken to Duke University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One neighbor told WRAL News the victim said, "They tried to rob me, and they shot me." Another neighbor said the gunshot victim jumped from a second-floor balcony.

Authorities said they "engaged the suspect vehicle" at N.C. 540 and N.C. 54 but did not elaborate.

Authorities were searching for the people Monday night, who were last seen in a newer model red Dodge charger with temporary tags. Investigators were unable to provide a detailed description of the people.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-463-1577.
