Shaw reopens to students after tornado
Approximately 400 students have enrolled in classes for the summer session at Shaw University after a tornado, last month, prompted the school to end the spring semester two weeks early.

Summer enrollment is expected to reach 600 students, the university said Monday.
The tornado ripped through the downtown Raleigh campus on April 16, destroy the Willie E. Gary Student Center, which houses the cafeteria, and two dormitories. Nearly every building on the campus sustained at least minor damage.
Summer classes began May 23, and students relying on university housing are staying at nearby St. Augustine's College and being shuttled to and from the Shaw campus.
“Our summer session is under way and very successful,” Shaw University President Dr. Irma McClaurin said in a statement. “Now, we turn our attention to the fall semester."
Freshmen arrive on campus for the fall semester on Aug. 12, and classes begin Aug. 17.
University officials said that admission and registration figures for the fall are on pace to match last year’s numbers.
