MEBANE, N.C. — A registered sex offender from Durham County who was charged Monday in a weekend home invasion in Person County was charged Thursday in a Mebane burglary.

Alfred Douala Mangabell, 29, of 1815 Vale St. in Durham, was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the June 11 residential break-in in Mebane.

A homeowner told Mebane police that an armed man broke into his home and stole a computer, a watch and cash before fleeing. The homeowner provided a description of the robber to police and noted that he had a foreign accent.

Mangabell, who also uses the name Alfred Manga Bell, is originally from Africa.

Person County authorities arrested him Monday on charges of first-degree burglary with forced entry, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault with sexual intent.

Those charges stem from a Sunday morning incident in Timberlake in which an armed man broke into a home and demanded money. When the two women inside said they had none, authorities said, he forced them to engage in sex acts while he photographed them.

Items seized from a search of Mangabell's home in the Person County case linked him to the Mebane burglary, police said.

Mangabell is being held in the Person County jail under a $1 million bond.
