Posted October 15, 2009

— A Sanford man was arrested Wednesday on assault charges and a sex offender violation, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Lewis Marvin Fulton, 29, of 1899 Nicholson Road, faces charges of failing to register as a sex offender, failing to comply with a court order and simple assault.

Fulton was being held in the Lee County Jail Thursday under a $51,000 secured bond.

In 2005, Fulton was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor, according to the North Carolina Sex Offenders' Registry.

State Department of Correction records show that Fulton has spent more than 7 years in prison since 2000. His convictions include two for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one each for assault inflicting serious injury, common-law robbery and discharging a firearm into property.

very true mayday....and the nonviolent people have to sit in prison for years and years...and then still be on probation....this stuff makes me sick to my stomach..makes me not believe in our wonderful justice system any longer..

Why don't they save us taxpayers some money and just go ahead and turn this guy loose. By the time we pay to keep him in jail till trial and give him a court-appointed lawyer, then turn him loose anyway, well, what's the point? The whole system is twisted.

I am sure he will get out to victimize again. In NC they keep putting them out on the street until they kill several people.
