RALEIGH, N.C. — A school bus was involved in an accident at New Bern Avenue/U.S. Highway 64 and Freedom Drive on Monday afternoon.

Twenty students from Enloe High School and Ligon Middle School were on board at the time, but none were injured, said Bill Poston, a spokesman for the Wake County Public School System. The bus driver was also OK.

The bus driver was pulling away from River Oaks Middle School after picking up a few students, Poston said. As the bus pulled onto Freedom Drive, a vehicle struck its front end.

Officials did not know if the driver of the second vehicle had been injured.

Poston said he thought the second vehicle was a wrecker.

Sky5 footage of the scene showed the hood of the bus was ripped off and its engine exposed. At least one car was being towed away.
