SANFORD, N.C. — A 72-year-old Sanford man died in a two-vehicle on N.C. Highway 87 South in Harnett County, between Sanford and Fort Bragg, late Monday afternoon.

State troopers said that a southbound 2002 BMW driven by Stephanie Duke, 23, of Sanford, turned left from N.C. 87 onto Olivia Road into the path of an oncoming 2004 Acura passenger vehicle.

The Acura driver, John Hillen Jr., died, troopers said. His wife, Lisa Hillen, 70, of Sanford, was a passenger. She was in the intensive-care unit at Central Carolina Hospital Monday night, but troopers said her condition was non-life-threatening.

Duke and two young children in her car were all treated and released for minor injuries.

Troopers said that charges were pending against Duke. Speed was not  factor in the wreck, and all involved were wearing seat belts, they said.
