CLINTON, N.C. — A Sampson County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for poisoning his wife to death.

Perry Bass pleaded guilty to murder in the 2005 death of his wife. He admitted he used a pesticide to kill her.

Prosecutors said he spiked her food with a chemical that's commonly used at hog farms.

As part of the plea, another murder charge and an attempted murder charge were dropped against Bass.

One of his sons died of poisoning in 2001. The year before that, his youngest son spent a month in the hospital after he was poisoned.
