WELDON, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested a South Carolina fugitive Saturday after stopping a vehicle for littering, said Detective Tyree Davis.

Cpl. E. Carroll and Deputy Chris High stopped the vehicle on Country Club Road in Weldon, Davis said. Carroll found drug paraphernalia that a passenger had thrown out a window while being stopped.

A warrant check showed that a passenger, Kelvin Molk Creech, 37, was wanted in South Carolina for probation violations. Creech had been on the run for two years, authorities said.

Creech was arrested on the outstanding warrants and also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and littering, Davis said. He was being held in the Halifax County Jail without bond while awaiting extradition.

Creech was put on probation in 2007 after pleading guilty to possession of less than one gram of methamphetimine or cocaine base, according to South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services records.
